In 2017, I had the first glimpse of the positive effects of community-driven planning by volunteering as a translator and facilitator at a local neighbourhood council conference. The event brought together elderly community members and municipal councillors to discuss issues of accessibility and importance of food security initiatives that involves the health and well-being of many vulnerable residents. Seeing the direct positive impact of these grassroots conversations inspired my push to ensure fair representation within communities. I’ve emphasized this commitment throughout my academic career, taking leadership roles at various levels of student government, from leading multiple student associations, to working closely with university administration, with the goal of ensuring underrepresented voices are heard.
